SAVE THE DATE -- Next Meetup Wed. Feb 26 from 6-8pm

Details

Dear Doers,

It is with great pleasure that I update you on some of the details regarding our next Meetup next week. The Meetup will be held once again at the Churchill Tavern on 28th between Madison and Park, but this time we will have the room upstairs. It is my hope to make this pub our "home" for most of our Meetups should it meet our needs, so I would welcome your input after the event as to the space itself.

For the cost of the event ($20 per person at door or in advance via PayPal), we will buy you your first round of beer or wine, and this time around we are pleased to feature a panel discussion: "3D Printing Product Design: Challenges and Opportunities." I will moderate the discussion and the panel will include:

Chris Milnes -- Inventor of "The Helper For Square," a unique phone and tablet accessory designed to securely support the Square Card Reader. Milnes purchased a MakerBot Replicator 2 and literally overnight began pumping out hundreds of retail ready pieces out of his home office. With some guerilla marketing, and a lot of luck, a new business was born.

Sebastian Misiurek -- Designer, Educator, and founder of Simplus Design, based in Brooklyn, NY. Simplus Design is a studio which focuses on digital design and 3D Printed products. Sebastian has a Professional Degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute, where he is currently a Visiting Professor and the Assistant Director of Digital Futures. He leads a teaching initiative of workshops that cover digital/parametric modeling, fabrication and visualization for architects and designers.

Carla Diana -- Product Designer at SMART Design. Carla specializes in robots and objects that come to life through electronic behaviors. She designs everyday products like washing machines and robotic vacuum cleaners, and teaches courses in Smart Objects at the University of Pennsylvania and the School of Visual Arts. Additionally, she is the author of "LEO the Maker Prince," which teaches readers about 3D printing by following Carla and LEO's journey through Brooklyn. LEO the robot prints (in plastic) any object that Carla draws, and all of the objects in the book are printable one way or another.

The Meetup starts at 6pm with the panel discussion commencing at 6:30pm. Each speaker is presenting about 7 minutes with time for questions to follow.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Churchill this coming Wednesday!
