What we're about

You are welcome to be part of a local community discussion forum on contemporary issues and how they impact our lives.

A group of us began using topics from the Bill Moyers Journal (http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/about/billmoyers.html) PBS program to initiate meaningful conversation with those who share an interest in informative dialogue. We are open to discuss any pertinent subjects, however difficult or controversial, and we welcome suggestions.

Initially meeting at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, this group now meets at the Bay Ridge United Methodist Church (http://bayridgeumc.org/), (BRUMC) which is located on the same premises, but on the 2nd Floor - Parlor Room. (Walk down the pathway on the right of the church building.)

BRUMC advocates for a number of social causes, including: peace action, animal justice, equal rights for all, mission & advocacy support, and resources for immigrant students. It welcomes people of every race and ethnicity, culture, age, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, mental and physical ability, faith history, marital status, educational background and economic status. In addition, the congregation has a long history of community involvement and of hosting educational events. It thereby offers the ideal venue for discussion and informative events that will be announced on this meetup platform. We warmly welcome all to our education forums. And warm is no exaggeration - the second floor features a lovely carpeted room with a fireplace - and in addition, light refreshments are usually served.

Note, not everyone attending these events is necessarily part of this meetup group; moreover, meetup members do not accurately RSVP, so remember the RSVP's you see on this site do not reflect the actual number of people attending an event, i.e. you won't be the only one to show up!

We hope to see you at our next event!
