◾ Talk Description:
This talk is part of the #women_in_nlp talk series, inviting women who successfully carved their career path in NLP to share their experiences and advice. Everyone is welcome to attend the talk not only women.

◾ Abstract:
This talk presents an overview of the approaches that I have used in my previous research to address the challenges of inferring and understanding social phenomena. We will map out the terrain of NLP and CSS and explore the effectiveness of incorporating social factors with the contextual paradigm in those tasks. I will explain my research from three studies focusing on stance detection, suicide risk identification, and readability assessment. Additionally, the talk sheds light on those models' reliability and the open challenges and opportunities in this research area.

Abeer AlDayel is an assistant professor at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, King Saud University (KSU). Abeer received her Ph.D. from the Institute for Language, Cognition, and Communication (ILCC) at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, and her Master's and bachelor’s degrees from Computer and Information Sciences, King Saud University.
