DETAILS

Talk 1

Title: Namespaces: The illusion of containerization

Abstract: How many times have you heard “containers are like lightweight VMs” and “containers divide applications into manageable, repeatable microservices”, with no further explanation? In this talk we’ll take a look at the types of namespacing that combine to give processes the illusion of being separate, with high-level explanations, comparisons to everyday concepts, and example commands for continued exploration.

Bio: Mark Casey is a DevOps Engineer for IBM Cloud working on global internal/undercloud Kubernetes architecture. He has more than 12 years’ experience in various Systems Administration and DevOps roles.

Talk 2

Title: Kubernetes Custom Controllers: Building Blocks For Platforms

Speaker: Ross Edman, Production Engineer at GitHub

Abstract: What is a controller? How does it work? How does GitHub use controllers in our day-to-day workflow? In this session, I will build a simple controller and walkthrough how you can use these concepts to extend Kubernetes to meet the needs for your business.

Bio: My name is Ross Edman, over the past 5 years I have consulted with organizations on how to define their infrastructure as code, build better reliability practices and make continuous integration a reality. I have run Kubernetes in production for 2 years and played a hand in architecting Toyota Connected’s global infrastructure for connected car technology on Kubernetes. Now, I work at GitHub and am helping run the largest developer community in the world… on Kubernetes.

Parking: attendees can park in any spots not marked 'bank', 'Telos Fitness', or 'reserved' anywhere on the surface or in the free parking garage right in front of the building.

We're open to any experiments, so if you want to share your experience and become a speaker or sponsor/co-organize the meetup, feel free to fill in the following form https://goo.gl/forms/cPUPbJHvLuFNVAkr2 or contact me directly.
