Talk 1
Title: Selecting the Right Service Proxy Architecture for Kubernetes
Speaker: Jacob Williams, Networking Solutions Engineer at Citrix Systems

Abstract: During this talk you will learn how to choose the right proxy architecture for your micro-services and Kubernetes based application delivery to balance simplicity and benefits. Jacob will review 4 service proxy architectures, some of which you’ve probably never seen:

  • Unified Ingress
  • 2 Tier Ingress
  • Service Mesh Lite
  • Service Mesh

Key metrics for evaluation will include simplicity, efficiency, security, scalability, observability, integration with CNCF tools, impact on CI/CD strategy, and ease of deployment.

Bio: Jacob Williams is a Networking Solutions Engineer for Citrix Systems covering North Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Jacob worked as a Customer Proof of Concept Engineer with Cisco Systems prior to joining Citrix in 2016. He represented Citrix at KubeCon 2019 in San Diego and is helping customers find the best service proxy architecture for their Kubernetes environments. Jacob is still learning more about Kubernetes every day, and has been focusing more heavily on the technology over the past year.

Talk 2
Title: Machine Learning on Kubernetes (Kubeflow) Update
Speaker: Josh Bottum, Vice President at Arrikto

Abstract: As demonstrated by the thousands of attendees in Kubeflow sessions at KubeCon San Diego, Kubeflow continues to be the leading Kubernetes-based, open source project for machine learning. In this talk, Mr. Bottum will review the Kubeflow Community and examine ML use cases from market leaders. He will discuss features in the latest Kubeflow release and provide a quick demonstration of the Kubeflow user interface.

Bio: Josh Bottum is a Kubeflow Community Product Manager. His Community responsibilities include helping users to quantify Kubeflow business value, develop customer user journeys (CUJs), triage incoming user issues, prioritize feature delivery, write release announcements and deliver presentations and demonstrations of Kubeflow. Mr. Bottum is also a VP of Arrikto. Arrikto simplifies storage operations for stateful Kubernetes applications (via an efficient local storage architecture). Arrikto is a core code contributor to Kubeflow.

Talk 3

Title: Accelerating Benefits of Multi-Cluster Management
Speaker: Chris Mays, Senior Engineer at D2iQ

Abstract:

  1. Overview of the challenges created by the speed of adoption of Kubernetes:
  • Manual day 2 operations
  • Lack of governance
  • Challenges of flexibility and control
  1. Demo of a multi-cluster/multi-cloud management platform build on Cloud Native tools.

Bio: Chris Mays is a Senior Engineer for D2iQ, where he helps companies navigate their digital transformations, including container orchestration and data services. Chris comes to D2iQ from HERE Technologies where he implemented DC/OS and managed its operations team. Prior to being a manager, he leveraged Java, Spring Boot, and Docker to build applications for the operations team as well as web interfaces for self-service.

Stay tuned for the updates!
