Get there @ 5:30 to setup. 6pm - 7pm is development instruction. 7 - 8pm is discussion on ecosystem and a couple of announcements. 8pm til whenever is dinner at CBD Provisions and drinks at Midnight Rambler just across the 'Eyeball' square.

Come get a basic level of understanding for Ethereum development. Leave with your first smart contract authored and deployed. We'll spend the first hour getting you setup with your first smart contract. We'll spend the 2nd hour talking about the ecosystem with an update from Oaken Innovations and what we've been up to.

WeWork space is from 5:30 to 8 pm and will convene in CBD Provisions and Midnight Rambler after.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again along with meeting new people!

Prerequisites:

Description: We'll be using the test network 'ropsten' on ethereum. I'll have some test network coins to send out to others. You'll need to sync to the ropsten network and setup a separate data directory to house your blockchain filesand wallets. Took my terrible computer 2 hours for fast sync. Ropsten blockchain explorer is here: https://ropsten.etherscan.io/

  1. Download and install geth. Follow the instructions to install here (according to your respective operating system) - Geth Releases: https://geth.ethereum.org/downloads/
    I'll be using the latest version 1.6.6
  2. Make a directory in your ethereum folder named 'ropsten'. Your ethereum folder would depend on your operating system:

Linux: ~/.ethereum
Mac: ~/Library/Ethereum
Windows: %APPDATA%\Ethereum

3. Sync the ropsten network! From terminal use the following command. Example below is for linux path. Modify to fit your OS:
geth --datadir "~/.ethereum/ropsten/" --testnet --fast

4. Send me your gmail account address so I can add you to the hangout that we'll use, during instruction, to pass wallet and contract addresses back and forth to "james@oakeninnovations.com" subject 'Strong Dallas Blockchain Community'.

5. Bonus Points: Install Truffle Framework - http://truffleframework.com/ ;

You should have a synced ropsten geth client for during the instruction.

Looking forward to it!
