Managed PostgreSQL on Your Laptop with Floci
Details
Hello friends,
Our next Dallas–Fort Worth PostgreSQL Meetup is on Tuesday, Oct 13
Event presenters: Hector Ventura
Topic: Managed PostgreSQL on Your Laptop with Floci
RDS IAM authentication, no cloud required.
Abstract:
Every major cloud sells managed PostgreSQL: Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL. Under the control planes, APIs, and auth layers, it is still the Postgres you know. So why does testing against it usually need a cloud account, a credit card, and a slow CI pipeline?
In this talk, Hector Ventura introduces Floci, a free MIT-licensed family of local cloud emulators for AWS, Azure, and GCP. Floci provisions managed Postgres through each cloud's real APIs and backs it with real PostgreSQL containers, not mocks. Then we go hands-on: create an RDS PostgreSQL instance with the standard AWS CLI, enable IAM database authentication, generate a token, and connect with psql. No passwords, no AWS account. You will leave knowing how to test cloud Postgres workflows, including auth, provisioning, and Terraform, entirely on your laptop or in CI.
We'll have pizza, soft drinks, and social from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The session will start at 7:00 PM.
Our generous sponsor, Improving, provides the place and pizza at every meeting. Thank you to everyone who RSVPs; this helps ensure we order enough food and reduce waste.
See you there!
