We invite you to join us for a FREE guided walking tour of downtown Dallas focusing on the Big D’s art, architecture and history.

Our walk will be hosted by Robert and Michele and will cover approximately 2 miles at a moderate pace, with several stops along the way for pictures, etc.

Cost: FREE for the guided walking tour - optional breakfast beforehand (Flying Horse Cafe) or lunch afterward (AT&T Discovery District - Exchange Hall) at your own expense.
Weather: This event will take place light rain or shine. If it’s on our calendar then we’re proceeding as planned.
Parking: Several options throughout the area, and the AT&T District has several affordable parking garages. Please arrive in the area several minutes early so that you have time to find parking and walk to our meeting point.
Before the Event: Optional breakfast, socializing, and restrooms at the Flying Horse Café from 8:30 - 9:00 am.
Meeting Point: 9:00 am at the Flying Horse Café (inside the Magnolia Dallas Downtown): 1401 Commerce Street - Dallas, https://www.flyinghorsecafe.com/ - please be on-time or early. Look for your hosts Robert (wearing a fedora-style hat) and Michele (also wearing a hat) along with a group of friendly people. We’ll depart on our walk at approximately 9:10 am.
Icebreaker Introductions: We should have a good-sized group and so instead of everyone introducing themselves to the group we will get to know each other by distributing blank stickers and colored markers and we’ll ask everyone to write down on their sticker: 1). first name. 2). favorite food. 3). dream vacation. Example: “Michele - Strawberries - Kenya” or “Robert - Chocolate - Tokyo”.

Walking Distance: Approximately 2.0 miles at a moderate pace with several stops along the way.

Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley; September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963) was an American singer. She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century and was one of the first country music artists to successfully cross over into pop music. Cline had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.
Some of her hit songs include "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall to Pieces", and "Crazy". In March 1963, Cline was killed in a plane crash along with country performers Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins and manager Randy Hughes, during a flight from Kansas City, Kansas back to Nashville.
Cline has been cited as one of the most celebrated, respected and influential performers of the 20th century. Her music has influenced performers of various styles and genres. She has also been seen as a forerunner for women in country music, being among the first to sell records and headline concerts. In 1973, she became the first female performer to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 2011, Cline's childhood home in Winchester, VA was restored as a museum for visitors and fans to tour. In 2017, Cline’s Dream Home in Nashville, TN was placed on the Tennessee Historical Markers List by the Patsy Cline Fan Home Owners, Steven Shirey and Thomas Corritore.***

In honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 (September 11, 2001) let’s review a variety of photographic images, both well-known and lesser-known, from that event: before, during, and after 9/11.
The program will take place on two dates:
Saturday, August 29 - 10:00 am eastern / 9:00 am central
Thursday, September 10 - 8:00 pm eastern / 7:00 pm centralDuring and after the program you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the images with your fellow participants via Zoom.
The September 11 attacks, colloquially known as 9/11, were a coordinated series of suicide attacks perpetrated by the Islamic terrorist organization al-Qaeda against the United States in 2001. Nineteen terrorists hijacked four airliners, then flew one into each of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, in Arlington County, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in a rural Pennsylvania field during a passenger revolt. In response to the attacks, the United States launched the global war on terror, seeking to eliminate hostile groups deemed terrorist organizations and the governments purported to support them. This foreign policy agenda was conducted over the next two decades.

Sweet Dreams is a 1985 American biographical film which tells the story of country music singer Patsy Cline.
The film was written by Robert Getchell and directed by Karel Reisz. It stars Jessica Lange, Ed Harris, Ann Wedgeworth, David Clennon, James Staley, Gary Basaraba, John Goodman, and P. J. Soles.
The film was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress (Jessica Lange). For all the musical sequences, Lange lip-synced to the original Patsy Cline recordings. The soundtrack of the same name was released in September 1985.Film Trailer:

Patsy Cline, unhappily married and planning to divorce, is playing small-time gigs in the tri-state area of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland when she meets Charlie Dick, whose charm and aggressive self-confidence catch her attention. After her divorce, Patsy and Charlie marry, and she is free to pursue music and, later, focus on raising their children. After Charlie is drafted into the U.S. Army, Patsy focuses on singing more, and after joining forces with manager Randy Hughes, she becomes a rising star on the country music scene.
However, Patsy's success fuels her self-confidence, much to Charlie's annoyance, and he becomes increasingly physically and emotionally abusive as Patsy attempts to assert her independence. Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean (January 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026) was an American musician, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. Dubbed the "Queen of Country", she was one of the most honored female country performers in history. Parton received various accolades, including eleven Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, along with nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award.
Parton wrote her first song at the age of six, began performing regularly on TV at the age of ten, and made her first recording at the age of 11. She became a professional songwriter at the age of 16 and, after writing hits for other artists, her debut album, Hello, I'm Dolly, was released in 1967, beginning a career spanning nearly 60 years and 49 studio albums.
Parton composed more than 3,000 songs, including "I Will Always Love You" (a two-time U.S. country chart-topper and an international hit for Whitney Houston that sold 40 million copies worldwide), "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors" and "9 to 5". As an actress, she starred in 9 to 5 (1980) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), earning Golden Globe nominations for both, as well as Rhinestone (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989), Straight Talk (1992), and Joyful Noise (2012).
