Organizations are seeking new ways to increase the value they derive from data. Business users, business intelligence consumers and data scientists want more data and more analytic capabilities—typically moving into the world of big data and advanced analytics. With this trend comes the challenges of uncertain and volatile requirements, managing continuously expanding data volumes, a wider variety of types of data and demand for faster delivery cycles. Some believe that the answer is to just load all of the data into Hadoop, while others believe that an analytic database is the answer. The truth is that they may both only be part of the answer.

In this talk, we’ll discuss the challenges facing Data Programs today, review the some of the technology choices we have to meet modern data management workloads, discuss 25 requirements to consider when designing a modern data architecture and finish up with a workshop, where the audience will provide input to the pluses and minuses of 5 example architectures in meeting the requirements provided in a case study.
