Dance Freedoms 50th Birthday DJ's 1st Rose & Chad, Drum Circle

Details
April 4th 2018 Dance Freedom’s 50th Birthday Back to our Beginnings . 1968 Drumming In the Park.
We kick off celebrating our first decade starting April 4th--the theme is the tumultous decade starting 1968, when the drum circle started on Cambridge Common, sending its wild call out into the summer evening, and eventually coming in from the cold to 0 Garden St!
A live Drum Circle will fire up the room, then a play list from 1968, will take us on a journey into the decade's music! Dancers are encouraged to dress in 1968 styles-- bell bottoms and mini skirts and fringed vests and kaftans; and hair lots of it on everyone. Movies released in 1968: "2001 A Space Odyssey", "Planet of the Apes". This was a fantastic time for music, political activism, art and literature-- the Beatles' Hey Jude, Born to be Wild, Mcarther Park, Since You Been Gone, the immortal Aretha Franklin. Martin Luther King's compelling speeches and marches, Robert Kennedy's run for president, and the tragedy of their untimely deaths by assassination; women organized and strove heroically for equal pay, true respect and dignity at work and at home; Nixon was elected president; the Vietnam war escalated, with many young American men resisting the draft.
In the coming months We plan to celebrate the volunteers and dancers who started Dance Freedom and kept it going for 5 decades. We need your help reaching out to those in our past so please send any Contact information of individuals who made the dance happen for last 5 decades to robin-w@comcast.net.
For those of you who launched your careers, fell in love with dance (or with another dancer!), who strove to change the world or whose friends or parents were changed forever by that decade, bring your stories, your memories, your friends and family and your dancing feet! Come and have the time of your lives!
