The talk aims at informing both designers and data scientists about the scope of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of design. The talk opens with a very brief introduction to artificial intelligence and statistical learning. It then lays out selected intelligent design tools across the design process.
Followed by remarks on AI as a design material, covering intelligent interfaces and multi-modal interaction. The talk ends with comments on a new intelligence design concept and new skills for designers.

About the speaker:
Since 2018, Sebastian is a professor for design management at the Berlin-based Media design (MD.H), University of Applied Sciences. Prior to this, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate at the Department of Graphic Design and Visual Communication at the HMKW University of Applied Sciences, Berlin. He holds a B.A. in media studies, and a diploma in media arts and received his Ph.D. from the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.

Sebastian teaches, researches, publishes, and consults on the topics of strategic design and innovation with a focus on machine learning in design processes, on open innovation and co-creation, on design thinking, as well as on aesthetic theory, and digital culture. He is co-author of the German book "Design and Artificial Intelligence" (2022), as well as co-founder of the Designing with Artificial Intelligence conference (2020).
