Which Fabric Data Store is right for your solution?

Details

Abstract: Microsoft Fabric has been in General Availability (GA) since November 2023 – and it’s been rapidly maturing, with a few speed bumps along the way. The SaaS platform provides us with several choices to use as data stores. We have

• Lakehouse
• Warehouse
• Eventhouse
• SQL on Fabric
• OneLake

On top of the native stores above, several external stores are also available.
Each of the above provides its advantages depending on the usage pattern, such as

• Data type – structured vs. semi-structured vs. unstructured
• Velocity – Batch v Real-Time
• Visualisation – static or real-time
• Cost

Even after considering the above, we might want to look at archiving, deployment and maintenance requirements.
The choice can often be overwhelming, and making the wrong choice might not be apparent until the finished product is in production.
This session aims to equip you with facts about your options, helping you make the correct choice that your organisation will be happy with throughout the product lifecycle.
