This event is being run jointly by ALSA and Data Science Initiative. ALSA is an independent network of students and professionals volunteering their time to support young people and students with their education and career in industry / academia.
Who is aimed at?
This event is aimed at University-level students from all degrees (tech or non-tech), graduates, early in careers or people with aspirations to get into Data Science. The topics discussed assume that you’re completely new to Data Science or you’re interested to see what opportunities lie ahead for starting a career in Data Science.
Why should I attend?
Learn from industry experts on the key skills required to become a Data Scientist, what Data Science is all about, and see demonstrations of AI and Machine Learning applications being used to solve real world problems. You will learn how build AI algorithms responsibly and understand the ethical implications of using AI models at scale across industries.

Speakers:
Ben Keen - Delivery Data Scientist
Ben works as a Delivery Data Scientist at Microsoft. He completed a doctorate in Biochemistry in 2015 before becoming a data scientist at Hitachi and then moving on to Microsoft three and a half years ago. Ben has a breadth of data science experience across computer vision, predictive maintenance, process optimisation, dynamic pricing, topic modelling and named entity recognition in a range of industries, with a focus on the energy, utilities and manufacturing.
Fatos Ismali - Data & AI Solutions Architect
Fatos works as a Data & AI Solutions Architect at Microsoft UK. He is passionate about all things Data & AI and using new and emerging technologies to deliver data focused solutions with Machine Learning and AI. Fatos leads the Conversational AI and Cognitive Services task force within Microsoft and focuses on helping organizations adopt AI and ML at scale.
Claire Dugan - Business Analyst and Operations Lead
Claire works as a business analyst and operations lead in the UK Customer Success team at Microsoft after joining the company at the HQ office in Seattle in 2016. She is passionate about aligning business goals with making a positive social and environmental impact, where progress is measured quantitively via action-oriented insights and brought to life through story telling. In addition, she is completing a post graduate degree in AI Ethics and Policy at the University of Cambridge, researching the complex socio-technical systems underpinning responsible AI innovation.
Hanson Fernandez - Cloud & AI Consultant
Hanson works as a Cloud and AI Consultant at Microsoft as part of the Aspire programme. He has graduated from UCL with a Bachelor’s in Information Management for Business and has held various different technical roles within academia and industry. He’s been a Senior Mentor at UCL mentoring a student cohort of over 300 students. He’s a certified Google BOLD Immersion Candidate and has worked at Apple Store as a Specialist before joining Microsoft in his current role.
Fayham Alon - Cloud & AI Consultant
Fayham works as a Cloud and AI Consultant at Microsoft as part of the Aspire programme. Fayham has gone through various different roles at Microsoft over the past three years including working in the Data & AI domain. Before joining Microsoft, Fayham has worked at companies like Ricoh UK as an Applications Consultant, HSBC, and Apple. Fayham holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Coventry University.
