COVID-19 and Data Science - Modelling a Pandemic

Details

What role has data science played in helping us understand COVID-19? Find out from our guest speakers at this meetup.

Dr Mark Lambrecht is the Director of the Global Health and Life Sciences Practice at SAS and will be speaking at this event. He will be speaking on "Practical data science during COVID-19: 5 dimensions to make data science count in saving lives during the pandemic."

Data science has played a crucial role in managing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this presentation, 5 dimensions in how data science has helped to save patient lives will be discussed. This will also read as a manual in how data scientists can apply theoretical knowledge in a practical (crisis) situation. From situational awareness, to epidemiological modeling, network analytics and randomized controlled trials. Spoiler : real world data science is about being part of interdisciplinary teams and have impact, not about the beauty of the algorithm or the choice of programming language.

Mark Lambrecht is responsible for market strategy in health and life sciences. In 2020, he led the COVID-19 Scientific Advisory Team, a response within SAS to help organizations analytically manage the impact of the pandemic. He is an expert in the global health care analytics ecosystem, using information and analytics to drive insights for providers, payers, pharmaceutical sponsors and governments.
