Using Model Context Protocol with Python
Details
Model Context Procol (MCP) is a growing standard for providing data and functionality to AI agents. Data scientists and software developers should learn MCP from the provider (server) and user (client) side.
Ryan Day will give an intro to the protocol as a foundation, and then share hands-on demonstrations of:
- Creating an MCP server using FastMCP
- Hosting an MCP server using Prefect Horizon (formerly FastMCP Cloud)
- Consuming an MCP server using VS Code
Ryan is author of Hands-on APIs for AI and Data Science, a 2025 release from O’Reilly Publishing. He is a data scientist in the financial services industry and previously led the digital services division for a Federal agency, He is a long-time Kansas Citian and his go-to BBQ entree is the pork sandwich at LC’s.
