8:00 pm onwards: Networking
Abstract:
Find and use freely available data and plot them on a map to find visual patterns. The data used are for breast cancer mortality rates in the UK between 2009 and 2016. If you would like to participate please bring your laptop with the following software:
- Anaconda distribution from here: https://www.anaconda.com/distribution/#download-section
- Packages by executing the following commands in anaconda prompt/powershell without the quotes:
2.1 Geopandas: "conda install geopandas -y"
2.2 Geocoder: "conda install -c conda-forge geocoder -y"
2.3 Upgrade all packages: "conda upgrade --a -y"
2.4 Clean up some space: "conda clean --a -y" - Create a google maps project from the API & Services dashboard then get a free google maps API key for geocoding here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/geocoding
3.1. Optionally restrict the use of the API key to geocoding only for the workshop's purposes - Download the notebook and data from my github repository: https://github.com/cibic89/datawizardry/archive/master.zip
Please note: to use google maps API you will need internet connectivity
We may be able to provide internet connectivity for a small number of people strictly for API access.
Bio:
George started as a computational scientist in 2012 and worked at Loughborough University, Nottingham University and did his PhD at Keele University in 2013 in applied data science for biomaterial discovery in Regenerative Medicine. After completing his studies, George took a role in 2017 as a senior data scientist at Liaison specialising in financial consultation and HR analytics. Currently, George is streamlining and augmenting Liaison's business processes using machine learning for VAT, account payable reviews, HR as well as continuing healthcare aimed to cut the operational costs of our NHS clients
