Data Science Esport with Live Commentary S1:E2

Details

Get inspired! Two competitors dive into a data science problem with live commentary and explanation! See how the players frame the problem, deal with tricky data, and push to get a result, all within a strict time limit.

NEW IN EPISODE 2: Interact with the competitors live! We’ve screen-recorded the players completing their challenge and selected the most interesting clips to show. The players will explain their thinking and assumptions, see how their competitor did, and react to the final results. You can also add your questions and thoughts to the mix through the chat!

Events are 2 hours long:

People
0m - 20m: Get personal with the players! How did the players get into data science? What motivates and inspires them within the field? Who have been their most important influences?
20m - 30m: Meet the commentators. Where are they in their data science careers?

Problems
30m - 50m: Discuss the problem the players are solving. The commentators will talk through a few of the challenging details of solving the problem. The players will talk through their initial impressions, describe their strategy, and respond to comments from the audience.
50m - 100m: Review several clips from each player, and discuss strategy, assumptions, gotchas, and results.

Solutions
100m - 110m: Reveal the player’s final answers. View any presentation / visualizations the players created and determine a winner.
110m - 120m: Exit interview with players and wrap up (you will get links to the problem text and the player’s solutions).

We are hosting on Twitch.tv! You can view without an account, but for an interactive experience with chat, you’ll need to create an account and follow the channel.

(Do you want to get involved in a future episode as a competitor, commentator, or behind the scenes? Reach out to the organizer, Aaron).

Special thanks to Mary MacCarthy for interviewing the players!
