Data Science Lightning Talks 06 - Conference edition

The next event will take place on October 12, 2023 as a special section at the Slovenian Conference on AI 2023 at Jozef Stefan Institute.

The theme of this meetup will be Managing Data Science Projects and Teams . The idea is to host experienced DS team and project leads from industry and academia that have or are building DS, AI or Analytics teams. Some topics ideas:

• Managing Data Science Projects: Provide guidance on project prioritization, scoping, and effective project management
• Hiring Data Scientists: Discuss the roles, levels, and hiring processes in data science teams
• Managing Data Science Teams: Share insights on onboarding, mentoring, performance reviews, and productivity

Slovenian Conference on AI will start with multiple sessions presenting academic papers. The final session starting at 17:15 is our meetup. The meetup will consists of one short talk and a fireside chat addressing how to manage data science teams and projects.

You're kindly invited to join the Slovenian Conference on AI as well, free of charge. If you are only interested in the meetup, be there at 17:00 and you'll have an opportunity to meet AI researchers after the lightning talks.

Lightning Talk: Managing applied (data science) projects in academia

While it is generally perceived that collaboration between academia and industry is to the benefit of both, implementing it in practice often comes with challenges and unforeseen situations. This talk is about managing projects in data science and related areas carried out by an academic research team for industrial partners. We share our experience and lessons learned in establishing bilateral partnerships with industry and bridging the gap between the two worlds when working together on applied projects.
