Best Practices with Measures in Power BI by Pragati Jain

Details

Abstract:
Measures are one of the strongest ways of writing calculations in Power BI. They can be even used to achieve toughest functionalities in a more flexible way.
But do we always think of certain rules that can make these measures, say more readable for other report developers or using some best practices to be followed before we even start writing these expressions?
In this session, I will take you through some of the best practices that one should keep in mind while framing their DAX measures in Power BI. This will not only make your expressions easy to understand, but will also help other report developers interpret them in the correct way, so that they can re-use or extend them for reporting.
• Measure naming conventions
• Measure formatting
• Commenting measures
• Usage of Variables to simplify a measure
• Measure organisation using Folders
• Measure tables usage
The session will show some use-cases where these best practices have helped streamline the process.
