I will show how our DWH framework for Microsoft Fabric evolved from a metadata-driven approach and explain why deployment runs via notebooks rather than Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. We will also explore the capabilities and limitations of Infrastructure as Code on Fabric: what works via the fab CLI and REST APIs, what doesn't, and which platform quirks cost me an entire day each.
The second part dives into the mistakes that cost the most time: a deployment that always reported "success" no matter what actually happened, a PAT that ended up in the repository via Git integration, and a single boolean that silently disabled deletion vectors. For each case: the root cause, the fix, and the rule that has been enforced in our code ever since.
This session is aimed at anyone planning or already operating a data warehouse or lakehouse on Fabric who wants to steer clear of typical pitfalls.
