Emily Chen (https://twitter.com/echenty) is a Consulting Analyst with The Information Lab. She also co-organizes the London Data Plus Women group and is a newly minted Tableau Ambassador. Her favorite chart type - the bar chart!
Talk: I'm doing a talk on how some NBA players are better than others on taking advantage of bad calls by refs. (https://public.tableau.com/profile/emily2933#!/vizhome/WhichNBAPlayersBenefittheMostFromBadMissedCalls/DoestheSuperstarCallEffectExist) I'll be covering my process in finding insight in a domain sphere that I don't know very well - sports!
Here are some techniques I'll be covering:
• synthesizing which pieces of criteria together have larger implications (i.e. do the bad calls turn games)
• thinking about the problem I wanted to solve and how the data has to be reshaped to fit it
• developing very strong knowledge of at least 1 player
• watching the bad calls/fouls to understand the scenario in which it occurred
By the way, we're on twitter at @dataplusvisual (https://twitter.com/dataplusvisual) and have a newsletter at https://tinyletter.com/datavisual
