Data Vis Talks – Data Journalism

Details

Hello visionaries!

Let's meet for the last time before our summer break for a cool beer to listen to another set of Lightning Talks. This time, we set a topic: Data Journalism. We'll have great speakers who talk about projects that tell us stories and explain us the news with data. Don't miss this one!

------------------------------------

We're happy to have Moritz Klack (@moklick (https://twitter.com/moklick)) opening this event: Moritz is an news developer who co-founded http://webkid.io and works in the interactive team of the Berliner Morgenpost (http://www.morgenpost.de/interaktiv/). In his talk he will show some projects of the Berliner Morgenpost and pick one of them to reveal some more details.

Our next speaker will be Nicolas Kayser-Bril (@nicolaskb (https://twitter.com/nicolaskb)), a journalist and a developer. He co-founded Journalism++ (http://www.jplusplus.org/en/), an agency for data-driven storytelling, in 2011. Before, he was in charge of datajournalism at OWNI, a Paris-based news startup.

He will show us a recent project from Journalism++. The Migrants Files (http://www.themigrantsfiles.com/) showed the human and financial costs of the "Fortress Europe" policies since 2000: over 30,000 deaths and billions spent by refugees, migrants and European taxpayers. The Migrants Files is a collaborative project of 30 European journalists, coordinated by Journalism++.

And we're honoured to have Paul Blickle (@colorfuldata (https://twitter.com/colorfuldata)) giving the last lightning talk of the evening. Paul is a member of the team interactive at ZEIT ONLINE (http://www.zeit.de/datenjournalismus)in Berlin. In his talk he will present current data journalism projects and give some insights into the creation process.
