CHANGE OF LOCATION!

Since we are so many that we wouldn't fit into the rooms of the Infographics Group, we will meet at ZEIT ONLINE at Askanischer Platz 1 instead.

---------------------------------

Wheee, happy new year everyone! (It's not too late for that, is it 🤔) Join us for an evening to learn from people who created data visualizations and infographics hundreds (or dozens) of years ago.

Who?

We're super happy to announce Sandra Rendgen as our speaker. She's the author of multiple books on the topic of (the history of) data vis – the last one being "The History of Information Graphics". Learn more about her books here: https://sandrarendgen.wordpress.com/publications/

Let's hear what she'll talk about:

"Back to the Future – A (very, very) brief history of infovis"

As most #visber fans will know, the field of data visualisation (and information visualisation in general) has been exploding over the past ten or so years. We have brilliant people from all backgrounds working on a variety of challenges, and we have new tools and methods helping us to visualize ever more complex data sets.

While everybody is looking forward to tackle the challenges of the future, there is only little integrated knowledge about the history of our field. This talk will present a brief journey back in time and provide a glimpse into the incredible wealth of our history: What were the main factors shaping infovis at different moments in time? Which were technologies and media supporting infovis back in the day? And which are the intellectual preferences we can find in old works?

Where?

ZEIT Online! It's very, very close to the S-Bahn station "Anhalter Bahnhof". Exit there, then look for a ground-level corner of a building that's completely out of glass. You'll find a glass door to this glass room. That's where we'll be. We'll gather there around 7pm and start at 7.30pm with Sandra's talk, so make sure to be on time.

We’re very much looking forward to seeing you there!
