What we’re about
Data Visualization DC is a non-profit professional group that meets monthly to discuss data visualization, data communication, infographics, exploratory data analysis, charts and graphs, perceptual psychology, and more! Our members are data journalists, data scientists, business intelligence professionals, and others who tell stories and persuade with data. Meeting topics are varied and range from tutorials on basic concepts and their applications, to success stories from local practitioners, to discussions of tools, new technologies, and best practices. All are welcome -- to attend, to meet others, and to present their work!

Mapping the No-Code Data Viz Landscape: No-code data visualization tools have exploded in recent years, from powerful desktop platforms to sleek public-facing storytelling tools. But as these tools have evolved, they’ve tended to cluster at opposite ends of a spectrum -- offering either deep analytical power or highly polished presentation, but rarely both. In this talk, Ross van der Linde, founder of Mappica, will trace the evolution of the no-code ecosystem and explore how a new generation of tools can bridge that divide. He’ll walk through real examples and show how new approaches to interactivity, data handling, and layout design can support organizations as they seek to share insights and communicate with clarity.
D3 in a Nutshell: Have you ever seen a slick interactive chart on the internet? There’s a good chance it was made with D3. D3.js is a JavaScript library that renders SVG and gives you full control to build custom, pixel-perfect data visualizations. D3 code can be a terrifying mess but I’ll show you how it works and how you can actually use it. Whether you're writing raw D3 or using abstraction libraries like Recharts or Observable Plot, there’s a data-driven document for everyone.
