Talk: Data visualizations usually represent large, complex datasets. But data are not always available because not collected, cleaned up or structured, yet. I will present rapid visualization prototyping techniques, to start creating visualizations at this stage, even when no or only little data is available. Rapid prototypes consist in low fidelity mockups, that can then be progressively refined with more realistic, complex data. Mockups are built using grids systems generated by a D3 toolkit I created https://github.com/romsson/d3-gridding which also has an important generative power I will present, to creatively and automatically explore novel visualization designs.
About speaker: Romain Vuillemot is a researcher and teacher in data visualization and computer science at École Centrale de Lyon, Université de Lyon, France. His research interests include information visualization, visual analytics, and human-computer interactions, with a focus on advanced interaction techniques to include humans in the loop of complex predictive analytics processes.
