Virtual Micro-Project Initiative

Details
(Virtual Event)
Have you ever had a data-oriented idea that could help a social cause but just never had the time to do it? Have you ever wanted to be able to add the experience of leading a small team of data analysts? Well, you are in luck, because:
Data for Good Vancouver is kicking off its virtual micro-project initiative! The event will start at 10:00 a.m. PST on Saturday, July 23.
Micro-projects are one-month-long initiatives proposed and led by volunteers to serve a social cause such as helping a non-profit realize their vision for change through the power of data-informed insights. Members and leads are expected to commit a couple hours a week. Members will either be team leads (by pitching their project ideas) or be analysts investigating the ideas proposed by the team leads!
Some examples from Data for Good Calgary are:
- An analysis of pet adoption pre- and post-COVID
- An analysis of Calgary's air quality throughout the years
This could be a great opportunity for you to:
- Show off your data science skills in a group setting
- Network with and learn from other data-minded individuals
- Develop project management skills
- Add a data science hook to your resume
- And most importantly, do social good in your community
At the virtual kick-off meeting on Saturday, July 23, we will discuss:
- Project initiation and brainstorming
- Team formation
- Training and onboarding
- Data for Good core team and project manager support
- What to expect from the project closeout
We hope to see you there!
