Roy Navon, MeMed's director of bioinformatics and data science, will provide a glimpse into the ML core of their revolutionary product.
Benny Perets, a PhD candidate in the Shen-Orr lab, will share insights gained from his journey as data scientist in the faculty of medicine.

Abstracts for the talks:
Roy Navon
Bacterial and viral infections are often clinically indistinguishable, leading to inappropriate patient management and antibiotic overuse and underuse. In fact, about 40% of antibiotic prescriptions are unwarranted. MeMed has developed a blood test which measures proteins secreted by the immune system, which can diagnose with high accuracy if it's a bacterial or viral infection. In this talk I will discuss the machine learning aspects behind the test.

In this lecture, I will share my personal experience as a data scientist in the faculty of medicine, spanning a five-year journey. Through a series of works, I will unveil the "cultural shock" I encountered, revealing the incredible variety that exists within the medical world - from traditional data analysis to the adoption of advanced methods from other disciplines, and even the development of innovative approaches for processing medical data.
