About us

What we’re about

Welcome Datanauts — San Antonio’s grassroots gang of data scientists, engineers, analysts, and curious humans who think turning chaos into insight is a good time.

Whether you’re shipping production models, debugging dashboards at midnight, or just figured out what MLOps actually means (no judgment), you belong here.

Our mission? Mentorship-first.

Because nobody gets into tech—or survives it—alone.

We’re here to lift each other up, swap skills, and pay it forward. Students, career-changers, and grizzled data veterans alike: there’s someone here for you to learn from and someone who needs your wisdom.

We’re for people passionate about:

  • Business Intelligence (BI)
  • Advanced Analytics
  • Data Science
  • Data Engineering
  • Machine Learning Ops
  • Artificial Intelligence

And all the buzzwords in between.

Our Datanauts are digital explorers. We chase down insights, test new tools, and help organizations actually use their data—no fluff, no snake oil, just sharp minds and sharper questions.

Who should join:

Data pros across all dimensions: scientists, engineers, analysts, MLOps folks

  • Students and early-career folks hunting for guidance
  • Business leaders who want to get smarter with data
  • Tech tinkerers and hobbyists
  • Anyone who believes in the power of data, mentorship, and a little mischief

Mentorship is our mission.
Community is our power.
Fun is non-negotiable.

Let’s turn San Antonio into a real-deal hub for data conversations that matter. Come for the Python. Stay for the people.

Events:

- The Drop
- Talk Nerdy to Me

📡 The Drop — Monthly Tech Talks

The Drop is our monthly gathering where data meets real talk. Expect lightning talks, weird charts, lessons learned the hard way, and ideas worth stealing.

Each session drops something real:

  • A new tool to try
  • A mental model to reframe your work
  • A perspective you didn’t know you needed

Beginners and veterans welcome. No gatekeeping. No dense decks. Just insights, inspiration, and intelligent chaos.

🎤 Talk Nerdy to Me — Data Happy Hour

Talk Nerdy to Me brings it all together:

  • Battle stories from the analytics trenches
  • Show off your weirdest chart or proudest pipeline
  • Complain about tools (and secretly show off your favorite one)
  • Debate trends and dream up new ones
  • Most importantly: find a mentor or become one
  • No slides. No pressure. Just drinks, data, and damn good conversations.

Zelifcam, 10200 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX, US

Join us for an evening of data talk, community, and good vibes right here in San Antonio at Zelifcam on the North side!

AGENDA

6:00 to 6:15 | Meet & Greet
Grab a pizza, meet your fellow data nerds, and get settled in.

6:15 to 7:00 | Data Talk: SQL That Actually Ships
Jagannath Sai Kasarabada, Data Engineer

SQL isn't just for querying tables. It's one of the most practical tools a data engineer uses to build, test, and trust data systems. Jagannath will walk through the SQL patterns he uses in real production work: cleaning and transforming raw data, debugging joins, validating data quality, and making datasets usable for analysts and downstream teams. No textbook theory, just the SQL that actually gets the job done.

This talk is for everyone: analysts, engineers, and beginners are all welcome.

7:00 to 7:30 | Community Discussion: Where Should Datanauts Go Next?

We want to hear from you. Come ready to share ideas about the future direction of the program: new tracks, events, formats, whatever's on your mind.

🚀 COMING SOON: The Datanauts Mentorship Program

We're building a structured, track-based mentorship program for anyone looking to break into data. Four tracks in the works — Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, and AI Engineering — each with real weekly deliverables, a GitHub portfolio, and a graduation talk right here at The Drop.

And yes, we're talking a real-world SQL server to practice on and a full program website. More details at the May 7th meetup.

Free to attend. Free parking.
All experience levels welcome.

See you there!
