Semantic Layers & Data Democratization
Pete Stiglich Founder of Data Principles
Organizations are drowning in data stored on-prem and in multiple clouds and SaaS tools, with different technologies, data formats, and widely varying nomenclature and semantics. To enable the business to find, access, and use the data effectively (especially for analytics) – IT should provide semantic layers for “one stop shopping” for data products. The data may be physically integrated and stored in a central repository (e.g., data warehouse, data lake) or it can be virtually integrated using virtualization, federation, and other technologies – but regardless the semantic layer should provide the business view into the data (regardless of how/where stored). In this session, you will learn:
- Key uses for semantic layers for data democratization
- Architectural considerations
- How to model the semantic layer
Ensuring data quality in the semantic layer
