Data Swindon: Introduction to R &: NOLOCK - The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
Details
We are happy to announce we have lined up two great speakers for our second Meetup event and look forward to seeing you in Swindon on July 3rd :-)
AGENDA
18.15 – 18:30 Meet & Greet
18:30 - 19:20
TALK #1 - Steph Locke "Introduction to R"
Learn the fundamentals of R. Abstract R, the statistical programming language, is another open-source program making inroads into the Microsoft world. R was originally for doing stats, but it now does database CRUD, reporting, documentation, and even websites. It can be awkward to know where to start, so this session fast tracks you to the sections you need to know about to save yourself pains you didn’t even know you had.
-- Bio -- Steph Locke is the founder of Locke Data (www.itsalocke.com). Her talks, blog posts, conferences, and business all have one thing in common – they help people get started with data science. Steph holds the Microsoft MVP award for her community contributions.
----------
19.20 – 19:40 Break & Pizza
19:40 - 20:30
TALK #2 - Niall Langley "NOLOCK - The Good, the Bad & the Ugly"
In this session we will use lots of demos to look at what the NOLOCK hint actually does and the ways it can return incorrect results, before looking at how we can use optimistic concurrency to solve the same issues more reliably.
-- Bio -- Niall has been working with SQL Server since 2007, mostly designing and building data warehouses, most recently building modern data warehouse platforms in Azure. Niall blogs occasionally, and regularly speaks at user groups and conferences in the UK, including presenting at SQL Bits for the first time in 2019.
