An Evening of Data Visualization Presentations

Details

A number of distinguished Data Visualization professionals will be visiting New York this coming Monday, and so we're putting together a last-minute event so that you can meet them and participate in some great presentations:

  1. Mark Daggett will be facilitating an interactive thought experiment around interface design, and speaking about his visualization work. Mark has worked for more than a decade in the fields of interactive design and user experience. Through a variety of start-up ventures he has worked on concept development, strategy, consulting and in advisory roles. Daggett was a Rockefeller New Media Grant nominee and has had his artwork recognized by The New York Times, Le Monde, WIRED Magazine and Surface Magazine, among others. He currently lives in Kansas City where he lectures at Kansas City Art Institute and is CEO of HumanSized Inc., a social innovations company. He's Co-Founder of Pledgie, a no-cost website that allows anyone to raise funds online for meaningful causes.

  2. Oscar Villareal will do a lightning talk and some death-defying live-coding on how to create an interactive, data-driven SVG map of any place in the world, using D3.js. Oscar is a UI Engineer at McKinsey, a rock climber, and lover of life, who loves to hack with Javascript and has recently been finding out just how many cool things you can do with D3.

  3. Greg Irwin, the CEO of BigTwist.com will be demonstrating his new product, still in private beta. BigTwist is a rich, interactive Software-as-a-Service presentation tool that includes powerful tools for shared charts and visualizations. Prior to BigTwist, Greg spent 9 years in senior roles in product management, product strategy and M&A at Avaya. Before that, Greg was a Vice President, Technology Investment Banking at Citigroup / Salomon Smith Barney.
