Saints and Sinners in the City
Details
Many of Canterbury’s 19 medieval churches have disappeared or are in ruins today. The Saints they were dedicated to, survive in the names of roads and parishes, and commemorative plaques. This walk will be a journey of rediscovery of this lost world of spiritual places. We will focus on the extraordinary stories of the men and women who gave their names to these churches and who were often martyred in the service of Christianity. Each Saint will be linked to a “sinner” who played a fateful role in their stories and often brought about their deaths. The stories of some of our Canterbury saints have been transformed by recent historical research which has revealed some exciting and surprising new insights into their lives.
