Janice Merrill Allred, a Mormon theologian and feminist, was excommunicated from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) on May 8, 1995. Her excommunication stemmed from her theological writings and public discussions, particularly concerning the concept of a "Mother in Heaven."
Allred continued to attend LDS Church services in Provo, Utah, for many years*. She has stated that she does not seek re-baptism, as she does not believe she committed any wrongdoing and cannot, in good conscience, repent for actions she stands by.*
