*** Required for this hike! *** Buy a $5.66 Daily Lands Pass online, print it, and bring it with you or bring a valid California hunting or fishing license! https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Licensing/Lands-Pass
Please change your RSVP to "not going" if you change your mind about coming. Meet in the parking lot at Big 5 Sporting Goods to carpool.
We are a faster moving group than most and often spread out during the hike, so I prefer smaller groups so that I can keep track of how many are behind me. I will stop periodically to regroup if I haven't seen the people behind me for a while, especially at intersections and any place people might get lost. People who get ahead of me should do the same.
Click here for the Ten Essentials. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials) Not everyone brings all ten for every hike, but everyone should at least bring extra water, extra food, extra clothing, and a head lamp or flashlight on every hike.
Facilities on the hike: Porta potties at the parking lot.
Click here for driving directions to the hike. (https://goo.gl/maps/rMV9XPiEh3n) Exit the freeway at Oroville and take a steep, winding road north of Oroville until we see a parking lot on the left. An alternate way takes seven minutes longer, but avoids the winding road: continue past Oroville on 70 to Cherokee Road, then keep driving on Cherokee Road until you see the parking lot on the right. This hike is mostly off-trail on cow pasture land and we will hike a longer route and go further south than most people do. It'll be about ten miles round trip with about 1500 feet elevation gain. Expect a lot of mud and a couple of stream crossings. We'll go to Hollow Falls first and descend into Beatson Hollow. When we find a decent spot to cross a stream and ascend, we'll head southwest to the less well-known Crevice Falls and Ranch Falls. After that, we'll turn northward back to the more well-known Ravine Falls, Ravine Twin Falls, and Little Phantom Falls, and Phantom Falls.
