Early Dinner on own at Caps place which requires a short ferry ride to visit on an island frequented by Al Capone. Caps most famous guests arrived in January 1942, just weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin D Roosevelt held war conferences at the Hillsboro Beach Estate of Secretary of State Edward R Stettinus, just a short walk from Cap’s Landing dock. It was natural for them to ferry over to Cap’s for a meal or two in the Yellow Room. Often in attendance were members of the Allied command.
Among some of the notables who have enjoyed Cap’s creative cuisine are Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, Casey Stengel, George Harrison, Errol Flynn, the Temptations, Susan Hayward, Gloria Swanson, Mariah Carey, “Norm” from TV’s Cheers and Joe Namath. Cap’s has hosted the famous and infamous for decades.
The winner of numerous dining awards, in 1990 Cap’s Place was listed as a historical site on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy South Florida … “like it used to be!”
