Who’s the party that’s too bold for their own good?
(SHAFT!)
You’re damn right.
Creepin’ through Toth’s domain, where the ancient sands flow,
Three sarcophagi wait, but traps lie below.
By wit and by luck, they climb and they loot,
But the secret tomb’s puzzle? That knowledge stayed moot.
Who’s got the guts to fight dust and despair?
(SHAFT!)
Can you dig it?
A dusty foe rises, mist swirling with dread,
The fighter’s near dying, almost joining the dead.
Two magic missiles, a darkness spell too,
They fought, they ran, till the dust devil was through.
Who tears down brass doors like they don’t give a damn?
(SHAFT!)
You’re talkin’ about the party, baby.
Back to the goblins, where chaos takes form,
They’re promised a feast, not a royal reform.
Killick the crafty lays down the law,
“Touch that big door, and CERTAIN DOOM is what you saw!”
But what’s that sound, a pup in despair?
The ranger’s ear twitches, the party don’t care.
They open the door, despite goblin pleas,
And a demon erupts—“Oh no, fighter, please!”
Who learned the hard way what doom really means?
(SHAFT!)
Shut that door, fool!
Now into Goblin Town, where the air is rank,
Bridges sway loose, ladders creak and clank.
A rogue’s paradise, with crime at its core,
But here comes the elf, ready to settle a score.
“Drow scum, where’s my sister? Draw your blade!”
But the Drow play coy, their lies well-laid.
“She’s behind that door, just take a peek…”
The elf charges in—now the silence speaks.
Who warned you twice but you didn’t comply?
(SHAFT!)
Damn right.
So listen, adventurers, and heed this refrain:
When goblins cry doom, don’t go play their game.
Feast and laugh, sure, but don’t get too bold,
‘Cause behind those doors lies a tale left untold.
(Doom, baby, doom.)

Old School Essentials is a new system for us -Old School Essentials is grounded in the the beloved 1980s Basic/Expert rules. The system is light, easily modified rules put the focus of play on shared imagination, improvisation, and fun. [The crawlers wheelhouse].
Favorite characters may not see the end of the story, many situations will require the GM to make a table side ruling as the book leaves much unsaid. But somehow, despite all this - it just works.
