Museum Meetup #9: National Museum of the American Indian

Details
Established in 1989 and opened to the public in 2004, the National Museum of the American Indian fosters a rich shared human experience through an informed understanding of Native peoples. The textured golden-colored Kasota limestone exterior of the museum evokes natural rock formations formed by wind and water through time. Its special features—an entrance facing east toward the morning sun, a window with eight prisms and a 120-foot-high space called the Potomac Atrium—were designed in consultation with many Native Americans over a four-year period. The museum consists of one of the most extensive collections of Native American arts and artifacts in the world, representing more than 12,000 years of history and over 1,200 Indigenous cultures throughout the Americas. With its long-term and changing exhibitions, the museum presents the voice and history of Native peoples throughout the Americas.
Admission to the museum is FREE. The closest metro stop to the museum is the L’Enfant Plaza metro station.
