Secular Zoom Community

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving. Sharing good food and spending quality time with family can give us reasons to be thankful. I am thankful that the elections this November are very promising for a more sane future. We can also be thankful that Pew Research now reports that 5% of all Americans are now atheists. I am thankful that many Republicans want Trump to better support Ukraine. I am thankful that the Supreme Court is likely to declare the tariffs to be illegal. I am thankful that the thuggery of ICE, supported by the unconstitutional use of the National Guard, has caused Latino support for this obscenity to crash.

Every month there is a new array of catastrophic stupidities paving our road to a possible Christian nationalist autocracy. At the top of our list this month has to be Trump’s threat of a death sentence for treason for a half dozen Democratic elected official. Mark Kelly and the others were just restating the legal framework required for all serving military personnel.

An unfortunate attack on two WV National Guardsmen has resulted in the death of one of them. This may be the excuse for massive changes to our immigration system. This might include ending all asylum claim hearings, revoking some Green card status situations, and removing existing Afghan immigrants. These and other threatened actions would all be outside anything permitted under existing law.

Today, November29, Trump has closed Venezuelan air space. He has no legal authority to do anything like that. Evidence has emerged that two people survived a bombing of an asserting drug running boat on September 2. They were clinging to some boat debris. They were bombed when they provided no possible threat to anyone. This is pure murder, against all American and International law. This may be part of an arranged prelude to an undeclared war against Venezuela.

Obviously there are many dozens of other mind boggling insanities available for our next meeting and discussions. Let us not to forget to have fun in spite of all of this. Our community is here to both acknowledge the chaos and somehow remain sane in spite of insanity. We can connect and share our thoughts on how to remain positive.

Our meetings have become a target for organized zoom bombing. Our major topic of discussion has been Christian nationalism and its hideous impacts across America. They have good reason to try to force us to stop our meetings. This requires us to work to preclude militant religious extremists from wrecking our meetings.

We will not post the zoom link for our meeting. The zoom link information will be delivered by email or direct personal messaging to trusted attendees only. I am now comfortable that this procedure works well enough so that a zoom waiting room will not be required.
