Details

- This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required for security purposes on this Eventbrite page.
- Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the screening starts at 6:30.
- After the screening we will be joined by director Ema Ryan Yamazaki for a discussion and Q&A about the film and Koshien (Japan’s National High School Baseball Tournament).

About the film
Each summer in Japan, the nation is captivated by Koshien. For the 100th anniversary of the tournament, New York-based filmmaker Ema Ryan Yamazaki took a documentary crew to follow the students and coaches from Yokohama Hayato, a high school in Kanagawa Prefecture, and explore the culture surrounding the tournament. The film captures the joys and frustrations of the baseball-obsessed boys and their coaches as they vie for a spot in the tournament.

About the Director:
Ema Ryan Yamazaki is a Japanese/British documentary filmmaker based in Tokyo, with roots in New York. With a unique perspective as an insider and outsider in Japan, Ema strives to tell stories that empathetically show human struggle and triumph.
