Hi everybody,

It’s been almost a year since I accepted to take over this group as organizer.

From the beginning, my vision was to set up monthly (or bi-weekly) movie screenings on a large screen of great masterpieces and classic films, especially for younger generations.

Otherwise, if the only goal is to go to whatever regular theaters already offer, then why do we even need such a group?

The cost of renting a 100-person theater hall is about $1,000.
This means if we have 25–50 members willing to contribute $20 a month, this dream can come true.
Together, we can achieve something meaningful for this sleepy and conservative town and make it a better place to live.
Something closer to a real modern “city,” more like New York or Philadelphia—and less like a sleepy medieval village!

All of us, and especially the younger generation, would finally have the valuable and unforgettable chance to watch these masterpieces on the big screen.
Unfortunately, many members seem to have a different (and to me, wrong) perspective.
They believe someone else (who?) should worry about culture in society.
For me, as an immigrant from Iran, this kind of perspective in t “founding father country” was shocking, disappointing, and unexpected—that we cannot even find 50 people out of 550.

On the other hand, what is the purpose of this group if we don’t do this?
Just wait for years until a valuable movie happens to come to a local screen?
When “others” decide for us what we deserve to watch on the big screen?
Anyway, I’m still hopeful that I can find 50 members who believe this is a great dream and worth spending $20 on.
I must also mention that this is totally nonprofit for me and everyone else. I am not planning to make any money from it, in any form, at any time.
In fact, I’m even willing to pay part of the cost from my own pocket.
Let’s see if there is some sense of “founding fathers/mothers” and a New York–style DNA in this sleepy, conservative city—during this dark age of Instagram, Netflix, stupid celebrities, and weak movies.

Note 1: I am not going to dictate any movie or list to the group. The film list will be created through a 100% democratic process with the founding members’ suggestions and votes, and I will have only one vote, like everyone else.
Note 2: All financial processes will be completely transparent. Once I receive commitments from 20–30 people, I will cover the theater cost upfront from my own pocket and provide the receipt, and then the founding members will reimburse me.

Note 3 :
Apologies for posting this as an “event” — I did it to catch more attention. The purpose was to remind everyone what great masterpieces we could bring back to the big screen, and what a unique chance it would be to share them with the younger generation.
And I still remember when I was young, watching this masterpiece several times in a row on the big screen — it was absolutely enchanting to me.
