First Talk Description:
• Beyond Apple: Building Cross-Platform Apps in Swift with ConcordUI
Steve Sheets
Swift is best known as the language for Apple platforms, but it is becoming increasingly practical as a cross-platform development language.
In this presentation, Steve Sheets will introduce ConcordUI, a new open-source framework for building native, forms-based applications for Apple and Android from a shared Swift application and user-interface definition. ConcordUI uses SwiftUI on Apple platforms and a Jetpack Compose host on Android, allowing each platform to retain its native controls and behavior.
Steve will demonstrate the same ConcordUI application running on iOS and Android, show the shared Swift code behind it, and explain how ConcordUI separates common application architecture from platform-specific rendering. The presentation will also discuss the challenges of Swift on Android, which parts of an application should be shared, and where native platform implementations remain essential.
Attendees will learn:
* How Swift can serve as the shared language of an iOS and Android application
* How ConcordUI maps shared UI intent to SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose
* How values, bindings, actions, navigation, and validation can be shared
* What remains platform-specific in a native cross-platform framework
* How to download ConcordUI and build a first application
