On our first trip of 2015, we will take another food excursion tasting several unique cuisines while exploring the massive borough of Queens in New York City.
We will take the subway to the transitional Long Island City communityand have Mexican brunch at one of the neighborhood’s highest-rated Mexican restaurants. Their unique and affordable brunch menu consists of items such as Menudo (Honeycomb beef tripe), Huevos Rancheros (eggs, corn tortillas, beans, salsa ranchera), Las Tortas (Mexican sandwiches), and Pozole De Mi Tia (Hominy pork soup, oregano, radish and onions). Prices range from $8 to $14.
We will take a short walk to a popular new French bakery, known for serving unique pastries, breads, sandwiches, and quiches. Some of their menu items include napoleon pastries, chocolate éclairs, mushroom quiche, sourdough bread, and smoked salmon bread. Prices range from $2 to $8. We will also walk to a nearby 50-acre park on the East River waterfront. This park used to contain an abandoned industrial area, but now features green space, a pavilion, and an extensive view of the Manhattan skyline.
Our excursion will conclude north in the multiethnic community of Astoria, where we will eat dinner at an Australian-themed restaurant. Their restaurant has received excellent reviews and serves interesting dishes such as octopus tacos, Australian sea bass, vegan Moussaka, and Canberra sandwiches. Prices range from $9 to $26.
Important Note: A detailed itinerary and restaurant information will be emailed one week before the date of the trip.
*Due to a limited number of seating for each restaurant, the RSVP limit for this event will be 15 attendees.
