W1 LM: North Fork Mountain (~25 miles)
Details
Adapted from Michael's 2015 trip description:
The Plan: Saturday morning, 3/26, we'll be meeting up at the University Boulevard Park & Ride at 8:45am.
From Vienna, we'll head out to West Virginia, where we'll drop off a few cars at the southern trailhead. Then we'll head north to the northern TH. We should be set up and ready to hike by about noon. The hiking itself should be straightforward. We'll hike the trail southbound, which means we will have a climb in the beginning before enjoying some level walking.
We'll aim to have splits of about 12-12, camping near where FR 79 intersects the trail.
Once the trail is done, we'll reverse the shuttle to grab all the cars, and then return to Vienna. Should be back by the late afternoon or early evening.
Be prepared to carry your water for the entire 24 miles. There may be a spring halfway through but we traditionally have not relied on it.
Maps: Since this is a shuttle hike, we'll need enough drivers to make this work.
Everyone should take a look at the following maps (https://www.hikingupward.com/mnf/northforkmountain/images/Map.pdf). You should print them out and be familiar with them. Just keep in mind that we will be going the opposite direction.
