I've booked this cabin to serve as a base camp for a weekend of (hopefully!) snowy hiking. Regardless, its gunna be a cold one. Haven't mapped out a route yet, but plan on a 5 mile hike Friday night, a 20+ mile day Saturday, and and 8-15 mile Sunday depending on what folks want to do.

I would like to check out the recent burn in the Rapidan Wilderness Management Area and hopefully hike some unmaintained trails on Doubletop and see the elusive Monkey Head. Rose River, Rapidan Camp, and many great options for folks to create their own routes in small groups

VMO only due to both W2 and the mileage. If you are a Member but not a Veteran Member, please message me about your WINTER gear list and hiking experience and I'll allow on a case by case basis.

More details to follow but, expect a carpool from Vienna Friday night, a night hike to Jones Mtn Cabin, plenty of hiking, and plenty of merriments to keep the cold away. I also have the cabin rented for Thursday night--if someone wants to spend the night there as well, reach out to me and I'll see about getting you the key.

Cost estimate:

  • $0.10/mi for the car ride to/from the trailhead (if carpooling)
  • Optional contribution for the cabin rental ($10-15 suggested)
