What we’re about
Welcome to the DC Urban Walkers! Our events prioritize metro accessibility and urban environments throughout dc and surrounding areas. We typically meet every week for an afterwork walk usually around 5 miles and we have several longer weekend walks per month. The routes can have mixed terrain including sidewalks, gravel, hiking trials, etc. We try to be punctual with our event times so please be respectful to others and show up a few minutes early, because we will leave without you.
If you've enjoyed our walks please consider donating a few bucks to help us keep this group running (meetup is expensive!). Donation Link: https://venmo.com/code?user_id=2158403661070336114
We're always looking for new leaders who can showcase their neighborhood or any cool places they know, so please reach out either at an event or on meetup if you are interested.

See all- Baltimore Walk (Union Station, 8mi)Union Station Metro Station, Washington, DC
Lets take our walking to a different city! We will meet at Union Station and use the Marc train to spend a day exploring Baltimore!
Route:
- Start from Baltimore Penn Station
- Walk Charles St all the way to inner harbor
- Follow the promenade trail to Fells Point
- Grab lunch in Fells Point
- Head back to Charles St and follow back to Penn Station
Logistics
This will be our first walk requiring more than just metro. For this walk we will utilize the Marc Penn line to get to Baltimore. If you haven't used Marc before you can purchase tickets using the CharmPass app or the in-person ticking machine. Tickets from DC to Baltimore are $9 one way and are good for 6 months (you don't need to purchase for a specific date). The train should take between 45 minutes and an hour for the journey. We will take the first train of the day which leaves Union Station at 8:55 AM so I would recommend meeting us there no later than 15 minutes before departure. Return trains leave roughly hourly in the afternoon. Depending on our speed and lunch plans I expect we will be taking either the 2PM, 3PM, or 4PM train back to DC.Start Location: Union Station
End Location Union Station

Maybe you've biked the entire Mount Vernon Trail, but have you ever thought about walking it? If you're up to the challenge, come join us on a walk of all 18.5 miles of this beloved trail. You can also walk whatever portion of the trail that makes sense for you! We'll be happy to coordinate so you can jump in or off the walk with us.
At 9am we'll start walking northbound from Mount Vernon. After ~10 miles, we'll be in Old Town and take a lunch break there. Old Town will also be a good stopping or starting point for those looking for a more reasonable distance. After lunch we'll continue on our merry way. Depending on the mood, we may make more stops. Expect to finish in Rosslyn anywhere from ~5-6 pm.
The logistics of first getting to Mount Vernon will be figured out once we get closer. I am expecting we'll have a small enough group where we could arrange to be dropped off by friends or share a ride hail.
Don't forget water, snacks, and sun protection.
Start Location: Mount Vernon
End Location: Rosslyn

Milage: 18.5 mi for the full versionAbout the trail (from Wikipedia): The Mount Vernon Trail (MVT) is an 18-mile (29 km) long share use path that travels along the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Northern Virginia between Rosslyn and George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. The trail connects the easternmost portions of Arlington County, the City of Alexandria, and Fairfax County, and travels mostly on dedicated trail with a small portion on city streets. As part of U.S. Bike Route 1, the Potomac Heritage Trail and the East Coast Greenway, the MVT opened in April 1972 as a gravel path and was subsequently expanded and paved.
