Are you familiar with DC's boundary stones? 36 of these were placed in 1791 by the order of George Washington to mark the border of the soon to be incorporated Washington DC. They are the oldest federally placed monuments in the US and serve as both a reminder of our city's history and a fun scavenger hunt to try and find them. Join us as we attempt to walk from the northern boundary stone, near Silver Spring, through the entirety of DC (and parts of Arlington/Alexandria) to the southern boundary stone (at the southern tip of old town).

Note: If 19 miles is too long you can still join us for the northern half from Silver Spring to the national mall and have lunch with us. That would be about 10 miles.

We will meet at the Silver Spring metro station and begin walking at 9:00 AM. From there is should be about a 10 minute walk to the northern stone where our journey officially begins. We will meet up with the valley trail in Rock Creek Park and follow that all the way to Mount Pleasant. From there we will walk to the National Mall which is roughly the half way point. While there we will have a picnic on the mall for lunch and to regroup for the second half of the walk. We will then make our way to the 14th street bridge, cross over the Potomac, and follow the Mount Vernon Trail and adjacent trails to Old Town. Then its just a matter of walking through the heart of Old Town and making it to Jones Point where the southern stone should be waiting for us.
