What we’re about
Welcome to the DC Urban Walkers! We explore urban environments throughout DC and the surrounding areas. As part of our focus on urban areas, we prioritize Metro accessibility and typically start and stop at stations. Sometimes we host special day trips where we visit nearby cities by train. The routes can have mixed terrain including sidewalks, gravel, hiking trials, etc. Note that while we do include hiking trails within cities, we do not consider ourselves a hiking group.

We're always looking for new leaders who can showcase their neighborhood or any cool places they know, so please reach out either at an event or on meetup if you are interested.

With the changing of the seasons let’s take a day trip to Charlottesville! We’ll spend the day walking around the historic downtown, the UVA campus, Monticello, a few trails, and we’ll try to hit up some breweries/and or wineries. I’m still determining the exact route, I will update this post with that info later. This is an all day affair, if you join please be prepared to spend 12+ hours away, and are willing to walk long distances (potentially up hills), and will bring any supplies you need (water, snacks, sunscreen, etc.)
Logistics
This walk requires more than just metro. You may drive if you would like, but I'm assuming most (including myself) will be taking the train to Charlottesville. We will meet at Union Station at 7:45 AM and take the 151 Northeast Regional leaving at 8:15 AM. The train also stops at Alexandria if that is more convenient. For the trip back to DC we will take the 66 Northeast Regional leaving Charlottesville at 7:01 PM. I HIGHLY recommend booking your train ticket ASAP as prices do increase as we get closer to the date. You can book your train tickets at amtrak.com.Outbound Train: 151 Northeast Regional
Inbound Train: 66 Northeast RegionalStart Location: Union Station (Main Hall)
