Brandon Sanderson made history with his recent Kickstarter that brought in $41.75M, becoming the most-funded Kickstarter of all time. This helped to shine the spotlight on the Kickstarter platform for authors, something I've been doing for more than a decade. My most recent Kickstarter, Farilane, raised more than $200,000 and all told I've raised more than $1M from 10 crowdfunding campaigns over the years.
In this session, I'll talk about using Kickstarter for books and discuss the various strategies to make it a success. Some of the topics include:
- Setting your funding goal for optimal success
- Determining your reward levels
- How to increase your income through a compelling message and video.
- How to use add-on products to increase the average Kickstarter Backer's orders
- Using third-party tools such as PledgeBox and BackerKit to allow for additional income "after the Kickstarter" through (a) upgrades, (b) add-ons, and (c) pre-order stores - and the cost of each.
- How to use "early-bird" pricing to get your project out of the gate fast.
- Timelines for pre-launch, during the funding period, and order fulfillment
- Order fulfillment options from DIY to using others
- The importance of communication throughout the process and how to keep people informed along the way
The first hour will be on Kickstarters themselves, and the second hour will be allocate for Q&A's.
