Map & compass orienteering at Boyce park

The Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club will host a regular meet at Boyce Park on Sunday Sept 22. Start/Finish will be at the Patrol 1 shelter (on the road that leads to the ski lodge). Look for red-and-white arrow signage.

Orienteering is a land navigation sport, in which participants use a specially-designed topographic map to find checkpoints in the woods. It is for all skills, from beginner to advanced, all age (young to old) and all weather (rain or shine). There is no mass-start. People can start anytime between 11 AM and 2 PM. Come on the early side if wanting to try more than one course. There will be four courses: beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Cost is $6 if you have done this before, and FREE if you are have never done this before (it's part of a promotion of National Orienteering Day).

Volunteers available to give instructions. If you have a compass, bring it. If not, the club has about 50 compasses available to loan. Attendance expectation is about 100-150.
