Classic Hikes - Midnight hike & Sunrise from the Summit of Old Rag Mountain

The Old Rag Mountain hike in the Shenandoah National Park is one of the most popular hikes in the mid-Atlantic region.
With many spectacular panoramic views, and one of the most challenging rock scrambles in the park, this circuit hike is a favorite of many hikers. it's the only hike we give a 5 star rating to for views. Many hikers also prefer to do this loop counterclockwise, thereby tackling the rock scramble on the Ridge Trail on the downhill.
Either way, the rock scramble can be challenging, being both steep, and requiring climbing through cracks in the rock. The best bet to enjoy this great hike is hit summit at 5:00-5:30am to see and enjoy the Sun rise and to make even more interested we will be back the same way we did come up scramble included, yeap, that's right we won't take the grandma trail (fire road) to came back.

Time: Friday 11:45pm
or trail head Saturday 2:15am.
If driving to trailhead be on time, we won't wait for you if running late.
Hike star time: 2:30 am
Pace: Moderate - No time to small the flowers.
Gear required: Head lamp-wool cap-extra layers-rain suite (just in case), bug spray-water & snacks

Visitors to Old Rag Mountain, including hikers on the Saddle, Ridge, and Ridge Access trails, will need to obtain an Old Rag day-use ticket in advance, in addition to a Park entrance pass.

IMPORTANT: If you own an annual Shenandoah pass card or equivalent bring it otherwise there is a $20 park entrance fee x car which should be divided between the passengers to ease the cost.
